NATS airspace explorer, new app.

Not really played with Radar 24 and all that but this popped up on a news feed. You get a live view and can get it in 3D so to speak. Fly around the UK airspace and see what it is like at different levels.

Bit quiet at the moment. But thats tomorrow sorted....

This looks cool, now imagine seeing that in real 3D where the airplane symbols hang in mid-air

"in-front / above" the screens and the vectors for direction and flight level are displayed in realtime.

Useful for aur traffic control, especially when stacking airplanes above airports prior to landing.



I might have built this, maybe, for experimental and research purposes, some years ago.

The cupholder on left side may have been mandatory and more important than umpteenth touch screens.

Would be great if they let me do Wednesday afternoons. Possibly fill in on a Sunday....

They do have haveagohero Fridays. Where members of the public can do some air traffic controlling I did it as an experience day that my wife got me as a Christmas present.

I think it's only in the LHR and LGW control towers though not the NATS main place.

That app is great btw, thanks for posting it, I was using it last night but then all the aircraft vanished. I hope it's not a realistic reflection of what's going on.

Weirdly, when we were doing early computerised careers guidance before my GCSEs, most of my class had 'air traffic controller' on their list of options, which seems fairly niche. It was the first option for me - the computer failed to ask if I was colourblind or not...
