Chinook over Matlock

Tonight we have a Chinook running at low level up and down the Derwent valley, its been past my house 4 times so far - the last time about ten minutes ago. Wonder what they are up to!

A village in South Nottingham had a Chinook fly over very, very low earlier this evening.

About 25 miles as the crow flies from Matlock.

Regularly seen over the Hope valley and swamping chappies in fishing boats on the reservoirs.

Military exercise or possibly more than one aircraft on training. They like to pick scenic routes as otherwise flying at 140knots gets boring.

I thought that but with them being based at RAF Odiham it seemed a long way North.

We used to regularly fly up north especially for CR checks (combat readiness checks) it’s not that far when you’re conducting an 8hour sortie, and of course they can also night stop and land away at other bases / fields.
