Friedkin has also sent over his similarly marked 357th FG, P-51D 'Frenesi' but this was shipped over in a crate. SO, its likely one of the two may stay here for a while, whether its B or D is not known (hopefully its Berlin Express)
No idea whether it will be at RIAT - I suspect not, but you never know.

Old Crow was re-allocated to Overstreet, and he had it remarked as Berlin Express, but the whitewalls stayed.The whitewalls was applied by the ground as a joke, probably stemming from a conversation between pilot and groundcrew. Likely a reference to cars of the time, as white walls were pretty much standard fit on US cars of the time.
Kid Hofer's P-51 'Saleem Representative' was also similarily adorned with white walls by the ground crew.
I recently saw photos of the repainted ARCo Buchon and the tyres on that aircraft have also been painted but in 'desert sand' beige. However, I noticed that with the undercarriage retracted, the beige side of the tyres will be unseen. Anyway, I aim to see Berlin Express sometime, somewhere, this year - c/w whitewall tyres.

The Buchon has recently been 'fake combat weathered' as part of the re-paint hence the sand beige on the tyres to give the effect of being caked in sand. This may have been done for a upcoming 'film role'....which is why this is usually done, as most owners prefer to see nice clean and smart aircraft as if they have just left the factory.aeropilot said:

But, I've seen mentioned that they aren't correct WW2 era P-51 aux tanks, IIRC they are post war P-38/P-51 aux tanks, which may have been borrowed for the ferry flight....?.......so they maybe marked that way for a reason, unrelated to their use on this ferry flight...?
