Wingly flight share

Just read about a potentially useful website - Wingly - for non-flyers where you can get airborne in various types for reasonable money

I might register but wondered what other pilot's experiences had been like before I do.

Feedback welcome.

Not used it myself (only passed my test a couple of days ago ) however...

As a pilot my concern would be "who is my passenger?"

As a passenger my concern would be "who is the pilot?"

Saying that, I can see how it'd be a good way of getting GA out to the wider public and helping pilots pay for the costs of flying

It's kind of endorsed by the CAA via their rule changes; maybe they see it as a way of a ppl'er keeping their hours up.

Agreed on earlier comment re trusting a pilot you don't know. I've already been very, very surprised to see one guy I know advertising i flights on there who has a great track record of stuffing the front oleo on a club 172 more than once with landings you'd more expect to see on a carrier in a force 8.

It's a neat trick if you can pull it off but I reckon at some point the CAA will step in - especially if it gets very popular and a few incidents happen.

What type of insurances would be needed for an operation of this type?

Has anyone ever successfully tried Wingly? I fancy giving it a go.

I was also looking in to getting a pilots licence, but it’d be more for the fun of learning rather than ever owning a plane (could never afford to), but would like to see how it all works etc first.
