I will be heading off to Brittany in a few weeks and wonder if anyone has visited these? Staying near Carnac and Le Flore is nearer but St Naz looks the pick of the two - is this correct? Tips gratefully received (likewise on other things nearby worth a visit)

Thanks

Definitely.

Go on the tour where you are taken through the history of the yards being taken through rooms that resemble the old liners. Sort of virtual cruise. Won't spoil the ending...

And the Submarine tour. Jeez, can't see the yoof of today settling for those sort of working conditions.

Carnac was fascinating and we kept asking Why? Still don't know!

Well worth a visit if you're interested in WW2, the glass lift car that runs through the roof slab at St Nazaire gives a good impression of the thickness of the concrete.

The rest of St Nazaire is all post war...

Another nearby gem is the tank museum in Saumur. An easy 2h up the road from St.N.

The ones at Lorient are good and probably half the journey? Also known as La Flore or Keroman.

The resistance museum is an interesting and quirky place about an hour inland from you:

I don't know if they still have it but when we went you could have a ride (at speed!) through some fields in a half-track so it was well worth it!

Edit:

I misread your OP, so my reply isn't very useful! I haven't been to St Nazaire, only Lorient. There's a visitors centre and a Cold War French submarine to walk through. Not all the tours are in English so make sure you get one that is unless you are fluent. The tour takes you into the pens which you can't get into if you are just mooching about by yourself. Take warm clothes as they are cold and damp inside but massively impressive.
