I've been in Cornwall for the last week, Penzance specifically. On Thursday, the Scillonian III (the passenger ship that runs back and forth to the Isles of Scilly) wasn't scheduled to run. I was therefore surprised to see it steaming out at lunchtime, then a Navy Merlin appeared and flew closely by the ship before flew out to the horizon passing between Lands End and The Lizzard. The Scillonian anchored about 2 miles offshore, where it stayed for the next few hours.
Sat out in the bay, the vessel makes quite a convincing case for a Hospital or Troop Ship. Is it likely that the Navy contract the vessel to act as a target for its submarines to practice attacking, and the helicopter force to defend?

P.S. It didn't blow up, and was back in regular service the next day!
