Bournemouth (Hurn) Airport Stuff

My commute now takes me past Bournemouth Hurn airport and I can't help having a good nosey when I drive by.

Does anyone know anything about the four 737s parked up near the road missing their engines? Presumably they are in the process of being scrapped? Or are the going to see service again? One tail number I can remember is 2-eska.

Also, has anyone seen the two 4 engined military transport planes parked nearby for the last day or two? What are they? I can't make out their tailnumbers.

Any ideas?

Don’t know about the 737’s however the military aircraft where a pair of Hercules that departed around 5pm yesterday afternoon.

This guy went in March and has pictures of most there on the link below. There are several 737s, 2-ESKA appears to have been Swiftair latterly, there are also some A340s which are ex-Etihad.

I've often wondered this as I've been through a few airports with aircraft in various states of disassembly, usually engines missing but not in obvious disrepair. I've always assumed they were for spares and repairs to the rest of the airlines fleet and weren't ever expected to be airworthy again but I'd be happy to know the real reason.

I thought they may be Hercules but I had assumed they would be bigger. Still nice to see.

So, presumably the 737s are being scrapped. Seems odd to see so many parked up on that side of the airport.

There was a hawk parked up their recently, not sure if it is still there now.

You might be thinking of the red Hunter on a post: I think that's moved on now, I flew out in March & don't think it was there any more.

I made a note of the tail number. It was xx239. Is that the one?

xx239 is a black hawk.

That might have been passing through, I guess, I think it's based at Valley. The Hunter was out by the runway. There's also a Jet Provost around the back, & plenty of bits & pieces in the museum by Alice in Wonderland.

Back in the day, 239 was one of a pair of solo display Hawks (172 +239) with union jack tails.

There are no Hawk T1s left at Valley, merely T2s.

The only Units operating the T1 are The Reds, 100 Sqn at Leeming and 736 NAS at Culdrose.
