RAF100 - Five Favourites
Discussion
Ok, so you can pick any five, rotary or fixed wing restored to fully flying condition for your own personal squadron of aircraft. Which are your five favourite aircraft which have been in service with the RAF. (No single aircraft captured, prototypes or being evaluated, just bona fide operational aircraft).
1. Hurricane - it had to be one or the other and I like an underdog.

2. Sunderland - my personal flying yacht

3. Phantom - Because it'll do Mach 2 and I can take a passenger.

4. Wessex - I like my helicopters big and ugly, and my old man spent a lot of time in these.

5. Auster - for watching the scenery, and because I might actually work up the guts to buy one for real one day.

Almost making the shortlist were the Hawker Fury (bipane), and the Jaguar, but since both are single seaters (I know they did a 2-seat Jag but the looks are spoiled with that big canopy) and I'm not that selfish they are out. Also the Tiger Moth and Chippy and Tonka.
Hmmm, no Lightning, Spitfire or Vulcan.

H.P Halifax, never got the recognition it or its crews deserved.
Bristol Beaufighter, called whispering death for good reason.
Gloster Gladiator,I like to think they were named after the pilots who got into them knowing they would very likely die.
Westland Lysander, piloted by brave crews on secret missions.
Fairey Swordfish, how these flew carrying a torpedo I will never know, flown by true heroes.
My main agenda for the above is more about the young men who flew them, true warriors.
Incidently,have a look at this.
