That is an incredible feat!
The thermals that allowed the glider to get there but be weakening as they rise, especially at that level, plus the air over the control surfaces to allow for manoeuvring, must be exceptionally thin when forward momentum must be relatively slow, given the need to keep rising (well to achieve the max ceiling, anyway).
Kudos to the team and pilot!
