Plane plummets towards ground when pilot engages autopilot set to 0ft
You'd have thought there be some sort of check in the software so that it engages with settings set to 'current'
Bet that 18 seconds until disconnect felt like an eternity

A 1500ft/min descent is hardly 'plummeting'.
"the aircraft had reached a maximum rate of descent of 4,300ft/min.""warnings alerted the pilot, who fixed the error at 928ft (283m)."
So about 12.9 seconds before impact..........(assuming ground was actually at 0ft above sea level)
Definitely brown trouser time!!!
Sounds like the nose went down pretty sharpish and the crew instantly began to bring the aircraft out of the dive to a full recovery at 900-odd ft. It must have been wild at the top of that roller coaster, but pretty sedate on the way out. Still, a silly error that could have ended rather badly. Though good to see that the skipper’s arm remained attached.
