A recent facebook entry of his says he's going to maintain his DA for 2019, and may do a few guest displays.......as he's finding it difficult to just stop.....https://www.airproxboard.org.uk/uploadedFiles/Cont...

I wouldn't say 'walt' is an appropriate description in this case at all, but my opinion of him as a display pilot has certainly plummeted in view of this coming to light.
There's a thread about this on pprune, and he's getting quite a roasting on there as well.
Shame really given his contribution to the UK warbird scene up ti now.

So why a cryptic post on here? Leave it to PPrune. I wouldn't say 'walt' is an appropriate description in this case at all, but my opinion of him as a display pilot has certainly plummeted in view of this coming to light.

Might as well close the thread then if your suggesting no one is able to post on a thread here.

Is the tower controller getting a similar roasting?Anyway........

Why would the Local Controller be censured? You do understand that a clearance for a Visual Run in and Break (VRIAB) is:
1. NOT a clearance to land.
2. A clearance to join the circuit from the dead side at circuit height.
3 It is NOT a clearance to be a pillock and beat up the airfield.

Indeed - although it sounded from the report of the Board's findings that he had on a number of previous occasions when displaying there done exactly the same on arrival, with the tacit (perhaps even express - I can't remember what it said) approval of Cosford ATC.You do understand that a clearance for a Visual Run in and Break (VRIAB) is:

Don't get me wrong _ I'm not trying to suggest that it absolves the Spitfire pilot -far from it - and he does seem to have completely failed to note the presence of the Chinook after ATC notified him of its location on first contact, but it makes it more understandable (though not really any more forgivable) why he assumed there wouldn't be a problem with the same approach as in previous year.
From the report it seems the Spit pilot holds the responsibility for event, but that many opportunities have been missed over the years to manage his behaviour. The ATCO could have been more watchful as well and once they'd recognised the deviation below the published 500ft minima, then a call would have been appropriate. It would also have been sensible for the ATCO to warn that there was an aircraft still on the active.
The Chinook crew did well and the fact that the PNF was keeping an eye out (as they should) shows good airmanship there.
I hope a few lessons are learned from it and I'm just very glad that it didn't end up with a collision.

Hmmm yes, having had a browse through, this individual certainly has issues. 2. Read the reports, especially the comments of the pilot's-post incidents- interactions with the investigators...
Like a lot aviation incidents, there can be more than one factor however when the airprox lot are questioning ones attitude to flight safety, that's damning enough!
