Not sure if I am reading this correctly, but it seems they have sought help from Airbus due to problems with the Tanker contract (the one they lost and then bhed about, and then "won")

You're right, I mis-read it, I assumed that they would offer the A330 if they could not supply the airframes. My bad.

I think you’ll find he’s been moonlighting for some time....

He was on the A380 project for some time a while ago as well
