Seems like a fair outcome to me

Murgatroyd was convicted of endangering his passengers and was sentenced to three years and six months in prison.

He was also found guilty of six further offences relating to the crash on the morning of 9 September 2017.

Police said the pilot had endangered "dozens" of lives as he sought to "make a quick buck".

Murgatroyd was found guilty of:

Recklessly endangering the safety of an aircraft or persons in an aircraft
Recklessly endangering the safety of persons or property
Conducting a public transport flight without an Air Operator Certificate
Acting as a pilot without holding an appropriate licence
Flying outside flight manual limitations
Flying without insurance

He wasn't jailed for the crash, but for recklessly endangering an aircraft, recklessly endangering property, flying outside the flight manual limitations, operating a public transport flight without the appropriate certificates, flying without the necessary licence and flying without insurance.

Paperwork issues aside, he took off in an aircraft 20% overweight, which meant the load was nearly 50% over the limit, on a shortish, wet, grass runway that would have been dubious even at the official maximum weight.

He also had quite an interesting record for aviation offences.

Pilot thinks he was a hero

Murgatroyd said the crash was a deliberate act aimed at saving the lives of his passengers, and claimed a film should be made about him, which he jokingly titled 'Miracle on the Ship Canal', referencing the Tom Hanks film Miracle on the Hudson.

Err, what...interesting insofar as you believe that as he "killed no-one" he should not have been jailed?

Guy sounds like an arrogant cowboy; the outcome could have been considerably worse. Thank goodness he has had his licence taken away.

As it did with the Emiliano Sala situation......involving another reckless cowboy pilot.
