I believe there is an aero engine, I assume from a crashed plane, on the beach in either Totland or Colwell Bay on the Isle of Wight.

I'm sure I saw a photo on facebook, but I can't find it.

Very low tides this weekend and would like to go walk around it with my boy.

How do I find out where it is? Google has failed me.

Did you ever find treasure?

I believe its visible at low tide. I was hoping someone could point me to a crash site nerds website with a pin point of where it is?

Or a stand with your back to the ice cream hut. face west, take ten paces kind of thing.

This website lists all aircraft accidents since a Boxkite in 1911 and there doesn't appear to be any at or near the locations you asked about.

Having said that I too remember a website that shows all the wrecks on beaches on the Island but i can't find it either at the moment.

Hi Ben,

Go to Fort Vic and walk along the beach almost all the way to Fort Albert - there is a large expanse of sand at low water and you should be able to find it. From memory it's a rotary engine, but it's some years since I've seen it. I don't suppose it's floated away though!

Cheers

Highly unlikely. Rotaries fell out of favour just after World War 1. As they got more powerful and larger, the unpleasant gyroscopic effects of the spinning engine created very difficult handling characteristics so they fell out of favour.

Hi Graham. Cheers for that, we'll take little man to have a look. I'll pop him on my shoulders and walk it from Colwell.

BTW, I was in NW's yard the other day, no sign of Eclipse, she gone somewhere?

Mine is in the green tent at HH.

BTW2 - Lifeboat don't want me. I email regualrly to offer but all quiet.

BTW3 - there's a group of us that have a curry in Cowes every so often, mainly Fairey Owners, next one 18th April, if you wanna join usa you need to use whattsapp and I'll add you into the group chat.

Hi Ben,

I'm not sure you can walk round from Colwell. The engine is just to the East of Fort Albert.

I've sent you an email regarding the other stuff.

Cheers

Graham
