RAF museum Hendon
Discussion
Finally got around to going this weekend just gone... tragic it's taken this long when it's 25 minutes down the road.
Have to say I thought it was brilliant, their recent refurb was money well spent. Wife and I spent a good 3 hours wandering around the hangars, and neither of us are huge "enthusiasts" when it comes to aircraft... Someone with real passion could easily spend the day there I think.
If you've never been, or not since they refurbed and expanded it, then I can't recommend it highly enough. Free entry although I would happily have paid a cover... spent some money in the gift shop instead (see how my airfix skills are after 20 years away
)
Personal highlights were the Harrier and Vulcan, cool to see some german WW2 planes also. To be honest it was all great, was surprised how many aircraft i remembered from my youth of building scale models... I don't often do touristy museum type things these days but this was well worth the trip. I didn't read or look at anything beforehand, so didn't really know what was on show beforehand, aircraft wise.
Just a post to say it's well worth going really... Took quite a few photos but i won't spoil it by posting them up!
(I have no affilation whatsoever with the museum!!)

I haven't been for over 30 years . When last there one of the stewards got the hump with me when my flash went haywire and started strobing even though it was turned off , I had to remove the batteries from it .
Having grown up on various RAF stations both in the UK and abroad it was like re-visiting my youth with many aircraft that I had clambered all over when young , often on open days .

Hendon has been a staple place since my little one was born a few years ago, easy for push him about in pram when a baby and now he likes the planes and the play areas.
I was the proudest man alive when he could name the vulcan (grandands favourite plane) and mosquito at the age of 3.
I love the place. I think the WW1 hanger is beautiful they way they have done it.
Being a soppy, sentimental type I do always think in aircraft museums that if only these beautiful machines could talk, the stories they could tell. I also look at them and think all the design and engineering that has gone into them, 1,000s of hours and now sat there never to be flown again. But at least we can go and look at them.
