I've been at sea for 23 years and it is a hazardous business. During that time ships I have been working on have had several incidents and collisions, the last one in April. That incident cost my employers 10's of millions but AIUI they have so much money they pay out of pocket.

Speed 2 being rebooted and the people are just casually walking away from it or stopping to look.

Parking like a boss. Looked like two people fell in from the moored ‘river cruiser’. Some big amounts of energy involved there!

I’ll think you’ll find they have P&I insurance to cover such claims. Only a foolish ship owner would attempt to self-insure, and in many jurisdictions the ship has to evidence they have first class third part liability insurance in place.

Some very big shipowners have a high deductible (as excess is known for this type of insurance), although I’m unaware of any self-insuring fully.

News report was that it had 2 tugs attached but for whatever reason it still got out of control, then when it hit the other vessel one of the tow lines was cut by that impact
