Just seen one fly over, pretty cool.
From a quick look at pictures, I think it was a Lancaster.

The BBMF (Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight} Lancaster is due to appear at RAF Cosford airshow today. It's fairly close to Telford, Shropshire, if that's any help?

If it was a 4 engined heavy bomber, then there's a very limited selection in the UK! If it was a twin tail, the Lancaster. If it was a single tail, B-17.

I can't think of any other types flying in the UK.

I guess that was it. I wish I’d taken a picture now. Guess it was going home. It was flying north over north Cheshire. On a route that I notice military stuff using regular. Including a few years ago a drone rocket thing.
Anyhoo Someone in the village took a pic

I had a much better view, I could see the front, since my spot faces south. SO I could see the sort of double bubble cockpit. I tried to register as much detail as possible. I should have taken the pic instead. biggrin
It also, to me appeared lower, since I could pick out detail on the cockpit. the panels, I don't mean great details, just the lines.

That’s definitely the BBMF Lancaster. Nice spot I think it’s one if it’s first flights this year.

Was at the show, and great it was. You're right to say the Lanc was flying about 1pm - it did 2 or 3 flypasts and wandered off west somewhere. It was flanked by 2 Spitfires - rather than the (apparently) more usual Hurricane and Spit.

Red Arrows were as amazing as ever. Such tight flying.
Later in the day, there was a 'dogfight' between a Hurricane and a ME109, which was pretty cool.

There was also a good show from a pair of Hornets, a P51 Mustang, and a bloke called Peter, who was throwing his plane all over the sky, with a fantastic flat spin stall at the top of a loop. Aerobatics in a Chinook (sp?)helicopter were also pretty cool.

On the ground I saw a Gladiator, and all sorts of other interesting stuff. Many of the volunteers were wearing period dress and uniforms, and it was all a bit fantastic. Sitting there listening to period songs while 6 Merlin engines were overhead. cloud9

Great day out, even if it did take 2 hours to get out of the car park.

Also managed a quick peek in the museum, which houses the 3 V bombers. The Vulcan is huge.

Bumping this because I had an unexpected spot of the land today.

Took my kids to Doncaster dome for a swim and they have a small outdoor pool, almost as soon as we were outside I heard the unmistakable sound of merlins and she appeared low and directly over head. Did 2 or 3 majestic passes and then disappeared. I presume she was passing SYAM who have are unveiling their newly refurbished Vulcan cockpit/nose.

What always amazes me is the amount of people who stop and stare. I wouldn’t have thought most present in the pool were aviation fans but everyone watched.

It was over Sheffield today just after lunchtime - I think it was some kind of D-Day commemoration at one of the parks:
