How nuts would I be to go 50:50 with a mate on this?

Now I have a bit more time to reply.
The machinery on a Huntsman is just about as simple and robust as it could possibly be. Annually, fuel filters, engine oil and filters, greasing a few odd places and its done. The boat linked to has a very recent pair of Sabre M215C which is just about the very best you could possibly wish for.
At a 20 knot cruise she will do 3.3mpg.
Regarding the rest of the boat, its hot moulded hull is stable and easy to care for, its not at all like a conventional wooden boat, if you don't want to DIY look after it, then you need to budget £5k a year, one year, paint topsides, another year windows out and paint superstructure another year cushions and cover, and so it goes on. £5k a year if sensible will keep one in top order.
Insurance is £500.
Mooring from £1000 to £10000 depending what/where
Fuel, in a good summer with lots of use, you might burn £1000.
£10k a year will see it done nicely, its less money than depreciation on a decent new car and a million times cooler.
Might be worth looking here http://charleslawrencechiswick.co.uk/ and buying a copy of Fixing My Fairies, its only £5 and will give you a valuable insight.
