Anyone else long for the days of these boats back on UK / Ireland routes (Birkenhead, Liverpool, Moystn, Heysham, Fleetwood to Grenoore, Dublin / DL or Belfast). Used to get car and two passengers for £100 return and your tea on the boat each night (late 2000s). Used to travel weekly on the Fri / Sun overnight boats as a passenger with car (OH family from Ireland, we used to go back every weekend when the Patriarch was ill with the big C).

Now it seems your stuck to the Holyhead - Dublin shuttle or the long drive via Stranraer / Cairnryan to Larne / Belfast and the prices are £3-400s.

Seems much cheaper now to fly and hire a car for a weekend visit?

Have boats got out the passenger market now?

Yeah it's very disappointing, if like to think there's a market for a low frills line which keeps the prices down.

Who needs all the rubbish they put on the ferries these days? A decent buffet, a bar and some chairs will do.

I fancied a quick trip to Ireland for a weekend but £300 was too much for the ferry for one by bike!

I did the ferry over there a few weeks back thats pretty much what it was? Theres also the more southern route pembroke/fishguard to Rosslare depending on where you're travelling from.

Seatruck still operate 80 sailing per week between Warrenpoint/Dublin and Heysham/Liverpool.

They are "freight" ships but can still carry 12 passengers per voyage.

Seatruck take vehicles (mainly HGVs) but also take cars.

Liverpool to Dublin is about £250 return for 2 passengers inc car.

Where have you got your info about them only accommodating 12 passengers from ?

P&O also operate a Liverpool to Dublin ferry. You need to take a car and it's a night crossing.(7 hours).

Stena Line do a crossing from Holyhead (3 hours). Foot passenger or car.

I'm sure Stenna were doing a "car club" promotion out of Stranraer recently which was very cheap for a car plus two, but it was a day return which is a pity as that severely limits Ireland based exploration.

Correct they can take cars as well, but are still limited to 12 passengers per crossing.
