Today is a lovely sunny day here in the East Midlands.

I thought I'd take the TVR & have me a picnic next to the runway at RAF Coningsby. Today was the usual fare of Typhoons coming and going...all wonderful stuff.

Then, the biggest show off took off. Turned it on its tail, looped over backwards & did loads of low passes, often upside down.

It must be awesome to be able to do that.

Pretty pointless post I know...but I've been there many times & never seen anything like it.

Was he practising something essential, or was it just "I can so I will!"?

Did that with my 10 year old son in the school holidays. First went over to the Lincs Aviation Heritage Centre for the Lancaster Bomber taxi run then later parked up in the lay-by at the end of runway for the Typhoons and BBMF. smile

Probably the display pilot. I occasionally visit that station for work and it’s always a treat if the display pilot is up. Often makes me think ‘Damn, I knew I should have studied harder at school’.....

One of the Togs on Twitter said he was up practising last week - did you not pop over to Waddington to see the German, Italian and Israeli kit?

Typhoon display practice is normally 0800ish in the morning and 1300ish in the afternoon if it’s happening from memory.

Most just take off and fly about, occasionally you get a performance take off with reheat and of course the display straight into a loop.

The nice thing with coningsby is you also have the BBMF there and quite often some visitors.

Was certainly a performance take off!! Straight up and over backwards, just for a start!
