This evening I saw 6 Apache Helicopters in formation following the River Orwell and out towards Felixstowe from Ipswich. 17:30 ish.

They're almost certainly from Wattisham but we're used to seeing the odd 1 or perhaps 2 and back on 7/7 there were 3 in formation heading out to Sizewell , but I can never recall 6 in the air together at one time, the best way I can describe the formation as a layman would be as 2 lines of 3 Helo's parallel to each other but the second "line" being staggered and rearward from the first, so they formed 2 triangles.

They were not in any hurry, so training or something else?. I can't begin to estimate the altitude, but it was easily possible to see the shape and colour as well as hear the noise very distinctly.

It might be to do with the exercise that's on at the minute. There's also Chinooks and Wildcats flying round as well.

Probably 99% of military flying in the UK is training. Could be a flypast rehearsal or exercise or something else. Generally when a course has a pass out parade it’s quite common for a formation flypast so possibly that?
