Based on the 737NG so no engine/MCAS issues, just the pickle fork cracks. wink

The P8 airframe has been toughened up so it can cope with its maritime role.

I'm sure it has some version of it. It may not need an old style "MAD" stinger.

Nope.

The US Naval Air Systems Command deleted the MAD requirement from the P-8 design as a weight saving measure to increase its endurance.

What is MAD?

I only know it in the nuclear deterrent sense.

Magnetic Anomaly Detector. Basically a metal detector that the Nimrod's used to have as a boom sticking out the back.

Magnetic Anomaly Detector. Metal objects create a disturbance in the earth's magnetic field which gives away their presence. This is specially useful when trying to locate a submarine that's under water and otherwise invisible. Oceanic patrol aircraft have carried some sort of MAD or other for many years - usually in the form of a boom at the rear of the aircraft -

Based on their bomber, the B-18 Bolo - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_B-18_Bolo which in turn was based on the DC-2.

I think the B-18 was Douglas' response to the bomber requirement that produced the Boeing B-17.
