I see that the town of Nowra in New South Wales has been badly affected by these massive Australian fires. Nowra is also the Royal Australian Navy's main land base and is also the home of their Fleet Air Arm Museum.

Has anybody any news on how the airfield and museum is being affected by the fires?

Sorry Eric but not at the moment. All the local news here (I'm in Sydney) is showing houses that are burnt. I'd wager it has survived, most of those places have large carparks around them and are steel/concrete buildings with minimal guttering.
The other big story is fuel in the region is low and there's a lot of Sydney families there wanting to get back. So queues at fuel stations are massive.

I've taken my family South as well, it's a spectacular coastline down there. Never been to the museum, but now you've mentioned it, I will (assuming it's survived).

Whilst I've not been following the matter closely, I haven't seen any water bombers in action. Are there?

There is a fire classified as safe to the east, and more to the west- https://google.org/crisismap/australia?topics=fire...

not sure what "safe means", under control probably as on here - https://www.google.org/publicalerts/alert?aid=fe1e...
