Bought a bunch of old Warplanes a few years ago and just got round to reading them, very interesting, type of magazine I love, full of detail and no waffle. I bought them as a kid and just bid on about 8 folder on ebay and won!

The back pages every month were an alphabetical list of craft used currently in the military and I was onto Lockheed, pages of Hercs etc then came upon the F19/RF19. All drawn obv, no pics.

Interesting stuff there said it was flying, around 30 had been built and it even suggested it had been posted to Europe, perhaps even Binbrook which was close to me as I lived in Lincoln at the time.

Now, was this entire plane fiction, a cover for the F-117 which we all know was flying as Tacit Blue from 1977 and the Skunks and CIA used to provide seemingly real stories to fans, and the media to cover stuff up?

Or was it a real plane, there seem to be no pictures anywhere, a model kit was built selling by the bucket-load, and it was in games etc, but no-one really seems able to say if it was real?

Personally I think not, it was a cover story to shroud 117 and B2 build and development. As now there is plenty of info about 117 and B2 as it was operational and the USAF came out and said we used it etc, surely if F19 was real there would be something more than there is?

That's worthy of 'St.George and the Dragonet'!

I had all 120 issues of Warplane.

Threw them out during a house move. I didn’t, the ex wife did.

You're on the right lines! Google Stan Freberg.

I just googled St George and the Dragonet, and lost a cheerful hour laugh

I did like the animated version, but then I have to admit to being a fully paid-up toonhead paperbag

Thanks folks!
