Why does everyone in boating programmes have to sit in a pub with some frightful 'traditional' band playing? And then pretend they like it...

I have a large interest in canals (and have been on quite a few) and industrial history - the 'celebs' have to be added so that Joe Public will watch. If it widens the audience then it's no bad thing IMHO... if I have to watch some hideous local with bad teeth battering a drum in a pub, there's always the mute button...
