It's most likely a Bf109E. Versions of the 109 from A to E had support struts under the tailplane. F to G(and the K) model plus the post war versions built in Spain and Czechoslovakia didn't have the tail struts.

Having said all that, the picture looks rather false as it looks more like a model in front of a fairly recent photo.

The sun is behind the 'pilot's' left shoulder on the ground but the light on the 'aircraft' is illuminating it from away to the right.

It also seems to be missing a tailwheel, which I think became semi retractable on the 'f', and fully retractable later (depending on version).

Well spotted regarding the tailwheel. It's not an authentic photo of a real 109.

Obviously not real. No aerial mast either.

I think it might be an RC model judging from the external control horns on the flying surfaces.

Real 109Es had those "control horns" - actually called "mass balances" -

On the image in question, they are very clearly white plastic control horns. If it doesn't have a tailwheel or mast,it ain't going to have mass balances!

Perhaps.

I've seen better 109 models than the one in the picture - including one you built a while ago.
