Back in the long hot summer of ‘76 two small fast jets did a similar thing high enough to be seen by anyone on the Moray area. No photo sorry.
They began with each doing a circle spaced apart which is when a friend first noticed it. They then began to fly parallel to each other before crossing over and then stopping the smoke.
With little wind the lines remained perfectly in place when we all started falling about laughing (ok we were young and found such things amusing - not old enough to buy beer yet) as 2 ejaculations were skilfully applied to the masterpiece. It must’ve been done at about 30,000’.
I had always assumed it was Jaguars from nearby Lossiemouth but thinking more about it now they wouldn’t have the ability to make smoke. So maybe 2 Gnats?
