Gladys Ingle was a famous wing-walker member of the 13 Black Cats, who were masters of aerial daredevil stunt work for the Hollywood film industry in the 1920's as well as a well known Barnstormer act of that era.
Remarkably, considering her chosen profession in that era of no safety devices this astonishing lady lived to the ripe old age of 82.
Presumably done as a stunt show rather than anything else, hence well filmed, but what a cracking thing to watch!
As you say, to do all of that with no safeties at all boggles the modern brain.
Mind you, if you fall into the prop or car clipped to the other plane I guess it doesnt really matter if you have a hardness on or not and makes it worse for everyone else...
