We’ve had four Chinooooooooks and two Pumas at Wattisham today.

What are they doing? Training.

I was watching a couple of Chinooks lifting trailers out of a field on the edge of Colchester about an hour ago, so probably something linked to that. They’ve been quite active over the last few weeks, doing similar things (last one we saw had a digger swinging underneath it) so I would hazard a guess it’s training linked to the garrison here.

Lots of engine and rotor noise from aircraft on the ground at Wattisham, and a Chinook, Apaches, C-17 and Osprey in the air over East Anglia.

One of the 3 x Chinooks has just landed at RAF Benson, after taking the London helo route along the Thames.

The other two are going the long way around and one is now down near Folkstone, and the other is following some distance behind just going over Chatham.

Just seen from the roof terrace, two Ospreys belting down channel just off Seaford a few minutes ago.

If you like ultra low flying military aircraft, come live here in rural Herefordshire! For some reason, not so many chinooks the last couple of years.
