Yes, if they want it to sink.

That's what I was always told.

Plus never cross the path of a black cat in your boat (or something wobble)

There is a method!

How to Rename a Boat
Remove all traces of the current name.
Begin the purging ceremony.
Begin the renaming ceremony.
Appease the four wind gods.
If you have champagne left, indulge in honour of completing the ceremony.

Yes, yes, yes. I know you're not SUPPOSED to. But do people do it?

Judging by the names of the boats I've seen, I'd have thought it a must.

I couldn't in all decency drive a boat called "Wet Dream" "KeithAnn" or "Overdraft".

Yes, yes, yes, they do!

As you say, some people name their boat that means something to them but there is no reason to have to accept 'WetDream' unless you're 13yo!

Did you follow a ritual and have you ever drowned to death?

Yep get them to help paint it and do the lock gates until the novelty wears off....need more grankids as antifouling is now due.

Years ago my mate bought an old steam yacht in a run down state and after getting it back to good condition his wife suggested they name it after her, he didn't want to change the name but acquiesced to her request and dutifully painted the new name on

Seconds after she saw it she went ballistic and demanded that it be removed and named something else, as she would not set foot on it until he had.

He has corrected signed as S.Y Phyllis

He said the smile on his face as he repainted the original name back on was wider than the beam of the yacht

On the subject of unusual boat names, I used to sail into Treguier regularly, and on the town pontoon was a rundown MB named 'Queen Hard'! Never saw it move.

One of the best chuckle names was 'Sir Osis of the River' however I always imagined how that mouthful might be phonetically spelled out to the CG!!

Empire Windrush for example? Formerly the (German) cruise liner Monte Rosa.

Bagged by HMG at the end of the war when it was in use as a troopship and as with other "acquisitions" renamed after a British river. Imaginative lot in Whitehall!

I wish.

Just got another Floating Money Pit bought and the suggestion was put forward the grandbabies could choose another name for it just like my kids did when we bought the previous one 20 odd years ago. That's definitely not happening. nono

Unlike the previous FMP that had been through more names than an ISIS freedom fighter when we bought it this one has kept the same from first launch and I'm resolutely and absolutely sticking with that.

So what was the name of the FMP named by your children?
