opinions on seadoo challenger 1800
Discussion
Looking at a non runner seadoo challenger with twin rotax 787s, from my cursory inspection it looks like the mpem is fried and the part is nla and like rocking horse s
t second hand, none available in this country and £1200 plus from the states The current owner has had a couple of boat mechanics look at it but they cant fix it.
I was considering megasquirting it which will be quite a laborious task, it will probably take all winter because I will only have a few hours a week to work on it.
bearing in mind It wont start so I cant properly check the physical condition of the engine and jet pumps it is a risky purchase. the boat is in reasonable condition for a 97 but needs a tidyup from years of neglect.
Owner paid £3500 for it fully working, he wants £2000 as a non runner, I was offering £1500 which I thought was more reasonable considering without very specialist knowmedge or a big risky investment as it currently sits in my opinion is a breaker. He reckons someone is driving over from poland to give him £2400 for it as it sits.
Am I missing a trick here? At the moment I am inclined to wait another month and offer him the £1500 again, or are these a hidden gem and worth a bit more even as scrap? Its hard to get a good read on them, lots of people hate them as they are unreliable and thirsty, lots of people love them because they handle well on the loch and are good in shallow water.
Should I stick firm and roll the dice to let this one go or up my offer?
At the moment I am thinking sit tight.

well thats the question, I expected toys like boats, jetskis and unnecessarily fancy cars to drop in price with people looking to unload because they are in financial difficulty, but it has been the exact opposite, everything has went up, boats are up, jetskis are 2-3x what they are normally, cheap vans are easily 2-3x what they go for normally, motorbikes are up, l422 range rovers and cayennes are away up in price on the used market, none of it makes much sense. I can only assume some people are going nuts with their bounceback loans.
Waiting until winter wouldn't hurt, but we are looking for a project for my daughter to get her hands dirty on, need to be careful to pick one we can have ready in time for summer, there is usually less choice available in the winter, and usually less dry weekend days for spannering.
Mind you we bought our jetski in the snow for buttons, but we could work on that in the garage.

Wish him good luck now and bid him £1400 in a month. Then remind him there is a difference between negotiation and bull sHe reckons someone is driving over from poland to give him £2400 for it as it sits.

Yep, I am fully aware he is miles off, I do believe he thinks the guy from poland is legit though, I know the guy whose yard the boat is on, thats how I got in touch with the owner, I just think its unlikely that it will actually happen, especially with whats going on right now.
t. I think I will hold off for another wee while though then get in touch again. The guy who owns the yard the boat is on is getting sick of the sight of it.

The inland boating scene has gone nuts - cruisers that would normally take weeks or months to sell are going in a few days, and as you say, prices are, er, wenting up!
t for months.A while back we made appointments to view three and all three sold before we got there. Broker we dealt with recons this will be the new normal and apparently people who've never sailed before
