We have a 'Where are you going sailing' thread which people state the obvious and discuss deals/options,etc. Somebody said recently that the thread was lacking photos.

How about we have a thread of just sailing holiday photos. No massive descriptions needed, just ones you like/took.

I stuck this on on the other thread but I like it so here it is again -

I’ve got a lot of photos as my job involves a fair bit of cruising around but this photo is a rare one of me and some mates just cruising around the med having a good time and not needing to be anywhere

I've got countless photos of sailing countless boats in countless places, but two of my favourites are below, taken just a few seconds apart...

Back in 2010 we decided to sail a friend's Challenge 72 from Southampton to Cherbourg between Christmas and New Year. All sounds great, aside from the fact that once we got out of the Eastern Solent we we beating into a full BF10. No real problem, but we didn't much fancy trying to get the sails down in the dark in 4-5m seas over in Cherbourg so we ran for home and got drunk in Gunwharf instead.

Loved that boat and sailed her everywhere (including across the Atlantic) right up until she was dropped in Plymouth and written off.

I managed to get myself onto a Round the World Yacht Race in 1992/3, my company was sponsor for one of the yachts and i was fortunate enough to get picked to join the boat as part of the crew, a few pictures below of the two legs that i took part in, I did Hobart to Cape Town then Cape Town back to Southampton.

An overnight from Majorca back to Sant Carles about 12 months ago..... what I would give to do that now... been a dull year sailing wise! smile

And this one... taken after a full day motoring at 5mph looking out from the marina at Cefalu on the northern coast of Sicily... i just remember lying there looking out at the coast and thinking it looked like something out of Pirates of the Caribbean... and also thinking.. 'this is the life!'

Slightly smaller, but just as much fun - sailing my Jav at Torside about 25 years ago...

And just to prove I can sail bigger boats as well, my missus and me (she really enjoyed it as you can see!) somewhere south of the IoW a few years ago...
