Properly good looking thing. More black than "Shark Grey" I reckon, but I'm not complaining smile

To be fair using the T1 Hawk as the bad guy was a little unfair....

Off topic, but following the post above: at Top Gun, when the movie was made, did they actually use Skyhawks as the aggressor against Tomcats?

I have to confess, the Tomcat is one of my favourite looking aircraft of all time. It just looked so 'right'.

Yeap, they also used the F-5 which played the role of the MIG-28 in the film too.

Thanks! I have wondered about that since the 80s!

Next question is: why did they choose those types? Is it that the Tomcat was a large, very fast aeroplane, whereas the Skyhawk (and F-5) were much smaller and maybe more nimble?

The A4 and F5 had comparable performance to the main Soviet types of the time. The last A4 variant with the big engine was considered quite a ‘hot ship’

That typhoon in black looks awesome! So reading up on this the new squadron has one purpose; scare the crap out of new fast jet pilots in mock air combat?
