I meant to ask this query a while back, but now I have more time.....

Lossie (very long runway AIUI) getting new simulator for Poseidon, delivered on massive transport plane to an airport (Prestwick) 200 + miles away and then trucked to Lossie.

confused Could they not have flown it straight to Lossie?

I’m involved with transporting Apaches from Wattisham to Brize, for their return to the States. It’s not only runway length. Not having the correct facilities at Lossie might be the reason.

Sorry for this link:

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/l...

But the runway is still being resurfaced/extended so that likely played a part along with RAF Kinloss being 'closed' as a fully operational air field.

Crash cat will also play a part, right amount of fire engines and crews. Lossie won't have the ACHE (Air Cargo Handling Equipment) to off load the aircraft.

My friend, a Sgt who used to work for me was the Team Leader out in the States for the prep of the freight. Most, if not all was loaded to aircraft pallets.

Used to handle them when they arrived at Brize. One of my favourites to load to a C17, only surpassed by the Chinook.
