We've some teenage children for whom we want to buy a waterborne toy. It will need to be carted about on the top of a boat.

Can anyone here with experience please confirm what sort of thing teenagers will be least likely to become bored with?

Many thanks.

Merry Fisher 695. Don’t you read Pistonheads? This has been one of the most important threads of recent times! The man was musing about buying a rowing boat. Within 3 days he put a deposit down on a brand new sports cruiser - we’re fully expecting an imminent book release on Advanced Man-Mathematics.

In which case a donut for when you're going from a-b and an inflatable sup/ kayak for when you get there.
I would suggest a proper kayak as they're more capable and fun but you'd probably scratch the boat when launching it.

Williamsjet is the best option to keep teenagers entertained. This option should appeal to the man maths in OP.

Wakeboard is also a cool choice which requires some skill, followed by donut for those who just want to cling on. Both impossible if limited to 6kts on the Trent, so join that water-skiing club. Check your tow mounting options as each of these can place a significant load on the boat structure......that Williamsjet might come in handy.

If you want the kids quietly frolicking whilst you select the hamper contents in Waitrose and leisurely feast afterwards, then get a SUP plus electric air pump (inflating through personal effort is so tedious).

Most popular hire items where I go are the SUPs ( inflatable & rigid) & the sit on top kayaks.
They have single seat & double seat sit on kayaks.
The double seat are more popular with mum & dad & the smaller children going out together.
You'll probably have to budget for one per teenager to avoid refereeing!

Well that is deja vu on your pricing ambitions. ;-)

It occurs to me that I need to re-evaluate my career ambitions for my dotage. My current income just won't support boating at a desirable level.

For that career satisfaction feeling, just wait until you get to the Riviera. Try lunching at the marvellously expensive La Guerite whilst gazing at the scenic boat park, but you notice your pride and joy doesn't have a helicopter or two on the back.

Keep your nose to the grindstone, as you're only starting at the bottom rung of the limitless spend possibilities on boaty toys.

Or just tell anyone that asks that your boat is just the runabout tender & you like to give it a run from time to time just to make sure everything still works.....

I like that. As alluded to earlier, just rename it 'Tender to HMS Balfour' and leave the rest to people's imagination...

Think water skiing, on a paddle board, at a brisk walking pace.
I’m still waiting to hear back from RedBull

The immediate issue I see with SUPs is that they are quite pricey. If it doesn't find favour, it is a physically large sunk cost that will be sitting in the garden going green.

I am thinking inflatable dinghy at the moment. It can be used as a tender, towed, rowed and easily stored.

Thats why you get an inflatable SUP. It can be packed into a small suitcase in the house to get dusty instead. (Or taken to a local river/lake)
