Old air miles claim ;)

I think that’s your Junior Jet Club log book?
My mileage in it was pitiful until we did a lap of the globe in 8 days, aged 7. That was an adventure!
If you flew that route in the early 80’s onwards too, my father may have been on the flight deck, he did tristars and then 75/767 on that route.

Yes every year a couple times at least up to ‘85. Recall a mix of BA, B Caledonian and KLM. Guess that log shows my first flight when I was 1 year old!
Can't speak for the OP, but I used to go there with my parents over Christmas between about '85 and '96 and we'd stay in the Sheraton that's on the banks of the creek.
Back then, none of "new" Dubai existed, the Sheraton was a traditional but good hotel. We always liked Dubai - the nice balance it struck, although never somewhere I really fancied living. Anyway, then didn't go again until 2011 and few times since - staying at the Address and another place down at the marina. What a difference!! Different in every possible way!
And then hopped over to Bahrain last time I was there was well - and I swear the place was totally the same as it was in '96 in every way! I like Bahrain too, but certainly much much more traditional - although it has quite a reputation for being Saudi Arabia's brothel.

Yes the Lou Lou restaurant in the Sheraton is one of my earliest hotel memories along with the revolving one In the Hyatt. I think our villa is now underneath a skyscraper but I see the school is still there (DESS) !
I don't particularly remember that restaurant - although I must have eaten in it many times. Used to all meet up in the Chelsea Arms before dinner though.
And in Bahrain, it was the Gulf Hotel we used to stay in - with the Sherlock Holmes pub. Although last time I was in Bahrain, the hotel was still nice (I made a point of staying there for old times sake), but the Sherlock Holmes pub had moved and wasn't great.
I think I vaguely remember visiting a revolving restaurant there too, but it's all a long time ago now.

Yeah, used to love a trip to the cockpit. Viscount is my earliest memory, I burnt my finger on a lightbulb, then Tristar, 75/767, 737 mostly.
If my father was in the cockpit, I could sometimes get the jumpseat for takeoff or landing.
Coming in to land just before dawn at LHR from Dubai once was, frankly, amazing. If anyone here every gets a chance for a takeoff or landing in the jumpseat, (unlikely these days, I know), take it.
But was also the reason why I decided not to become a pilot myself - with the advent of the glass cockpits, I saw how much safer flying would become, but pilots were doing a lot less hands on. It's all good - but not for me, I'm too much of an engineer.
