I felt it odd that they ditched the rotating gun turret for two non-moving 30mm cannons which, despite the increase in firepower over the quad-barrel 12.7mm turret, must make aiming a massive pain IRL.
I'm surprised that an Apache style single barrel 23mm (which was tested) couldn't have been made to work in the turret instead but I suppose the Russians have their own odd doctrine for these things.

Fixed guns would be a lot simpler and cheaper. The mountings would be lighter and more reliable. The Russians probably decided they would prefer simpler helicopters and more of the for their money. Ultimately you don't want to be displaying the side view of your helicopter to the enemy anyway, as it presents a bigger target.

With the Apache, more often than not it’s firing its cannon at people armed with rifles, at night, from over a mile away. Side view matters not. This lets the Apaches circle the target with the cannon aimed at it. My job would be much easier without the rotating turret and elevation challenges!

I suppose it all depends on the battlefield I’ve played enough Janes Longbow to know helicopters need to be extremely stealthy if they don’t want to be smoked in very short order !
How many Apaches did the British army lose to enemy action in Afghanistan? That’s the reality. MAVROS said:
Slightly off topic but today I saw two V22 Ospreys flying over Exeter. Didn’t even know there were any based in the UK.
There are some based at Mildenhall in Suffolk, I think. They regularly practice assault landings at MoD Sculthorpe, near me, so I see them out and about quite frequently.

Weird things, I suspect they cause many crashes on that stretch of road as people wonder what they're doing
