Marine 1 & 2 support
Discussion
Was watching something on YouTube of Air Force 1 landing at Heathrow. Before it landed to US Marine choppers came in, assuming Marime 1 and 2.
The were escorted by 3 RAF pumas and an NPAS chopper.
None of the support craft were armed. So what's the point. Surely anyone brazen enough to attack presidential transport is going to have something bigger than a spud gun.
Or have I watched Olympus as Fallen too many times?

Are you sure the armaments arent hidden.
Airforce 1 has some pretty good jamming tech on board.
The military sweep the area that its all going to land at and maintain a clear airspsce for a bit either side of landing.
Probably a few satalites keeping watch and an armed jet just out of view too.

Are you sure that there were 3 RAF Puma's in the formation? All the footage I saw consisted of:The were escorted by 3 RAF pumas and an NPAS chopper.

1 x NPAS EC145
2 x USMC VH-3D Sea King
2 x RAF Puma
1 x AAC Dauphin
The Dauphin belongs to 658 Sqn Army Air Corps, based just outside of Hereford. That should give you a fair idea of who was travelling in the Pumas, and I'd suggest that that is where the armed element lay.
Also of note was that for the duration of the summit in Carbis Bay, there was a continuous deployment (certainly during the day time) of 2 x RAF Typhoons and a supporting RAF Voyager tanker in racetrack patterns just to the north. Occasionally joined by NATO E3 AWACS.

The carbon footprint for the summit is going to need the whole of the Sahara to be covered in 300ft giant redwoods to offset it.1 x NPAS EC145
