This has happened a few times now over the summer. A very low pass across the valley by this private jet. I'm assuming military given it takes off from I believe RAF Cranwell.
Are they using it for training before you go to fast jets or something? Was a very strange thing to see the first time. Given Manchester is only 10miles away I thought it might be a hijacking 9/11 style spin

Taken from the Interweb (it will be like the one with the reg ZM333)

Embraer Phenom 100 business jet has been selected by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to provide flight training for pilots of multi-engine aircraft of the Royal Air Force (RAF), under the fixed-wing training element of the UK Military Flight Training System

That says 2000 feet altitude? What's the height?

Depending on where you saw it, could it have been VFR in the low level corridor (you mentioned Manchester?)

I saw this yesterday over West Lancashire, looked and sounded like it was pretending to be a fighter.

my house sits at 950ft so it was a low pass - not hugely fast but really strange seeing a business jet at that height

Excellent little aircraft. Modern glass cockpit, ideal for the job.

Presumably roomy enough you could have a few students together and rotate them into the hot seat too, or duplicate some of the other systems like radios and use them for training at the same time

Not unusual to see the Cobham Dassault Falcon 20 (Callsign VADER) in the air during the week, doing simulated attacks for all parts of the armed forces.

I find virtual radar a better tool as it colour codes the military aircraft.

What does everyone think fighters do? They certainly don't fly around at 200 knots at 2000 feet.

Phenom is being used for Multi-Engine pilot training, part of which is introduction to low flying, which is where you've probably seen them. If the weather is nice then people tend to go to the same places.
