similar to the best looking WWII and Cold War plane threads - I was curious about the polar opposite. Namely what is the worst looking/ugliest plane ever?

I think the Blackburn Beverley beats the Skyvan in looks. Although I guess it could be kinda cute in a Wallace-and-Gromit kinda way.

Naval aviation seems to offer rich pickings:

Short Seamew

Fairey Gannet

Short Sturgeon S.B.3

I like the Gannet because of its brutal looks, personally. Agree about the other two though, no arguments there.

Experimental Vought V-173 and its successor XF5U.

Interesting for sure, but good looking? No.

In my ignorance I was going to suggest that the Russkies copied the Seamew, but on checking I find that Shorts may have copied Ilyushin paperbag. (Or arrived at the same solution independently, of course.)

There have been quite a few aircraft with that 'cabover' arrangement of pilot above single engine, and all of them look pretty gormless.

The Blackburn R1 Blackburn was another:

I was going to nominate the Heyford but after seeing that Ilyushin I think everything else is an also-ran.

Definitely not the Hampden. I always thought it was quite a stylish aeroplane (although not the prototype).
And the Skyvan is quite cute.

Much of the output of the Blackburn company, especially between the wars, was very challenged in the looks department.

However, when asked this question, I usually nominate the General Aircraft Fleet Shadower -

Some of my favourite planes are ugly or functional designs, often experimental aircraft built when you had to make and fly them to see if they were any good.

RAF Cosford has a hangar full of experimental planes including one designed to be able to fly incredibly slowly (and presumably abandoned because helicopters).

I also love the Komet which looks like a mouse on a hang glider but is somehow appealing. It looks too cute to be a Nazi aircraft design somehow.
