Seeing reports from various sources that the An225 has been damaged, including below.
I know that there is a whole lot more to worry about, but this is sad nonetheless

It seems increasingly so....

In the big scheme of things is just an object, compared to all the people that are and will die because of this, but sad none the less...

Not good to hear. I think they do have a partually built 2nd build so if the worst happens it's possibly not the end.
Hopefully it's not stored there aswell.

That would be a pity but as Antonov is a Ukranian company, I fully expect that it will be targeted by its former customer.

It’s also an opportunity to destroy the largest airlift asset in NATO’s arsenal without directly attacking NATO assets.

Isn’t it operated by Volga Dnepr though? Who are based in Moscow.

I thought Antonov were involved in looking after it.

Strongly rumoured too have been completely destroyed.

Saying that I read on a Facebook page that it was spotted on FR24 last night leaving Ukraine airspace.

Who knows. In the grand scheme of things the fate of an aircraft is largely irrelevant however…..

Last recorded flight was Feb. 5th from Billund to Gostomel.
https://uk.flightaware.com/live/flight/UR82060

From past records it looks like a long time grounding. Was it possibly undergoing some maintenance?
That would explain why it didn't leave some days ago, knowing things were getting bad.

Not sure if it's real or not, my son just sent me this:

Would be a very small consolation in a very bad day

It could have been flown to safety before things kicked off.

As the first thing to be targeted in a war is the enemy's air force and defences, it shouldn't come as a surprise that some aeroplanes have been damaged/destroyed. Think how we worked in Desert Storm.

Bloody hell that’s some feat taking off from Billund!. I’ve been through there a few times while visiting Legoland. That must be some sight seeing it take off.

I have read it was undergoing maintenance, and not flown since the 5th, Flightaware seems to confirm this.
If so, quite possible it was in a state where it could not quickly be flown?

A real shame if it's been destroyed.. I remember seeing it at the Farnborough Air Show in 1990 - My first time at this show. This big Ukrainian "bird" certainly put on an amazing display that looked and sounded wonderful......

I wonder what remains of the 2nd airframe and if that could be completed...

Maybe, but the tension has been building up for months. Ah well, file it under hindsight!

It’s a real shame democracy has been destroyed in that part of the world.

A couple of posters have weighed in that it’s only a ‘plane etc.
I get the tragedy of the Ukrainian situation.

I completely understand that individual stories and the fate of people trumps inanimate objects but…

It’s really sad if the only version of an iconic piece of engineering is destroyed.

For me the ambition of the Antonov design bureau and the pride Ukraine had in the An-225 makes it analogus to the whole situation.

I’ve also read another report that says it is intact.

But it’s just an aeroplane at the end of the day, even if an interesting one. Bigger issues at play
