Four of them parked up by a new build housing estate in Warrington.

50 years ago these were my favourite thrash.

What on earth were they doing in Warrington on a siding with two wagons and two orient coaches twixt each pair? Where would I find out. Has someone started a new Heritage railway perhaps on the old Fiddlers Fairy line?

I believe that this railforums thread contains the answers you seek. If not then that's the place to ask.

Ah, thanks.

So nett zero policy now is bring class 20 and other old diesels back on freight instead of class 88s so Network Rail save some electricity spare for domestic consumers? (That is right isn't it Network rail are the single biggest consumer of electricity?).
