Does anyone know what happened at this evenings display at the Midlands Air Festival?

Two aircraft separated immediately after the opening fly past and after a while circling, one then flew away back to base.

The remaining aircraft circled for a while before resuming the display which was obviously heavily amended.

Any news what caused the aircraft to return to base?

The 2 that left aren't part of the main display team for this year, they're only doing the proper displays with 7 aircraft this year but Red 10 & the CO join in for big flypasts like today to make up the numbers.
There's a thread about it somewhere in here, a press release said 2 of the pilots had been moved to other roles within the RAF

How many resumed the display, 7 or 8?

There was a report recently that 2 members had been advised to seek other career opportunities recently, with n o time to train up replacements.. So the plan was for 7 aircraft displays but with a couple of stand ins to make up the 9 for flypasts.

7 arrived, 2 separated and there was a 5-10 minute hiatus before the display resumed with 6 aircraft

When they came over Bromsgrove, about ten miles away, they were flying as a set of five with two trailing.

I noticed that they were not on time for the fly over our house a few miles away from Ragley.

Saw the one left behind catch up, which I was secretly hoping there would be a foolish mistake and a sonic boom would come... but no.

Love the arrows. Incredible to watch

That one was circling to the north for quite a while and after the main group departed, he came steaming past in pursuit.

We're supposed to have them in Torbay tomorrow late PM and again mid day Sunday but the weather looks crap so maybe not.

Hawk T2 can go through the sound barrier, but only in a dive. Level flight tops out at mach 0.88

Reds don't fly the Hawk T2 though.......although the T1 is even slower at about M0.81.

Whether it's a T1 or T2, I think they are beautiful, elegant little planes.

I always think of them as hot hatches of the combat world.

Was fascinated to read on here that if the Cold War kicked off, they'd pair a couple up with weapons with a Phantom to use its much better avionics etc as a force multiplier.

Wow. Surprised that the bird punched a hole in the side of the nose, I would have imagined that the airflow would have pushed it away.

Parp!
That was *very* lucky. Two feet higher and that could have been an exceptionally bad day at the office.
Glad all turned out OK.

That's an old photo. It has the tail design for the 50th anniversary season, which I think was in 2014.
