A couple of minutes ago, (approx 11am BST) a loose formation of six civilian helicopters flew over Emsworth and Hayling Island heading South. I had a look on FlightRadar24, but could only find an R44 G-GSPY. Would the others have had their transponders turned off to avoid swamping ATC?

From what I could make out, the other helicopters were a Jet/LongRanger, something a bit BO105ish and some Squirrels.

Given the strong wind and rain, it seemed an odd day for going for a jolly with helimates.

Update: G-GSPY flew to somewhere about 12 miles South East of the Isle of Wight and then disappeared; maybe landed on a ship?

Just dropped out of coverage. It landed at Cherbourg and then carried on to La Roche sur Yon and has just taken off again to go somewhere else.

Appears to be flying with G-CLJR as well.

Bunch of wealthy mates on a jaunt?
