Done kayaking in scouts / with friends etc before so know the basics

A friend and I hired some sit on type canoe / kayak down at mudeford on the south coast and paddled about in the calm bay and then messed around in the sea for a bit

I live near eiling which is calm and full of people paddling about in the summer:

I have been looking at gumtree / Facebook and hoping for a winter bargain as I have space to store until summer, I probably want something stable so my little kid can squeeze in, any names / recommendations etc would be appreciated

I've got two Teksport Xcite sit on top kayaks, they do the job just fine.

I'm not sure that you'll get a winter bargain though. In my experience there are significantly less for sale during the 'off' season so that tends to keep the prices up as more people are after a lesser available product.

I have a tarpon 14, and it's OK.
I've had it off the South Wales coast in some pretty rough conditions, and paddled it around Lands End. Decent boat, with good storage, and is super stable.
But be aware that the stability can be a hinderance in choppy conditions, as you cannot 'lean' the boat to balance it, and it will tip over. So it's strictly for fine summer days I would suggest. (IMO as are all sit on types). I've also had it on the Wye a load of times, and it's very safe in those conditions.
Anyway, I've just bought a pair of touring sea kayaks, so the Tarpon is available. I was planning on selling it in the spring.

I've also an Ocean Malibu 2 sit on. Interestingly, the Malibu 2 is a faster boat then the Tarpon, but less stable, and has no storage at all. And the seats aren't as good. But I like the orange colour.

I've got a couple. My 'go to' a Conwy Kayak Menai which has been brilliant.

A single which takes a small passenger is not an easy requirement in sit-on kayaks?

A plastic double is a heavy old beast for one.
