Ferry fire this evening

Reported a ferry has had a fire in its engine room this evening in the channel.

All accounted for according to Sky news

I assume it was drifting in the tide.

It’s not that surprising
I went on it twice last year, I felt like it should have been sailing to the scrap yard, not Calais

I would assume the tug wasnt there imediatley. Even if crew were on board the tug I bet it took them 30 mins or more to get to the boat and hitch a line. You can drift pretty far with a good tide.
The engines would have been killed as soon as the fire was discovered.
Water and electrics dont mix well.

It was under tow last night when I originally posted; the wandering about was later. Look at the past route and play the timeline.

The ditch is shallow, if the Irish Ferries "Big Book of things to do in an emergency" is anything like ours it will have a page for total loss of power and in ours action No.1 is drop the anchor.

Seems all fixed now - it did a trip to Dover and back today.
