Unbelievable, a light aircraft landing on the Burj Al Arab helipad. That takes a pair.

It’s a well thought out stunt.

The overrun consequences are low as there is plenty of height to regain lift, which in this video you see the departure which is essentially a stall recovery.

This is far more mental as there is no real contingency to over shooting the landing zone.

Meh. How about a Hercules landing on an aircraft carrier?

Anyone know what the lever is he pulls on when stopped? Flaps? Brakes?

It was suggested that it is the flaps lever, the idea being that he pulls it in to lose lift as soon as he's over the helipad. Whether that's correct I don't know, but it makes sense! Also the location would tie in with the high wings.

Brakes would be on the pedals as usual presumably?

This - you can see he's pulling the flap back in to maximise the weight on the wheels and hence the braking action - with the flap still hanging out there's an increased chance of skidding off the far side with the wheels locked.

I'm reminded of the story in Neil Williams' "Airborne" where he made an emergency landing at an airstrip, somewhere on the Welsh coast I think - was taken aback at how short it was, and then realised it was in fact a helicopter landing ground.

Supercar Blondie has a decent breakdown of the stunt - I’m not a fan of hers but some good info.

If the runway looks very short but very wide, you're probably approaching it from the wrong direction... nuts

Is anyone else turned off by most Red Bull self-promoting videos? I really can’t bring myself to watch any of it now.

I've thought the same for while. Red Bull seem to encourage people to do really reckless stuff for the sake of selling more sugar in a can.

His channel is amazing. Been following it a few years now. Have you seen the house he is building?

The scrappy build is incredible.

Given Red Bull's appetite for these hijinks I'm surprised they haven't found a way to do a "F1 car sticking to the ceiling" stunt yet.

It’s unreal! If not a little out of character for the area, I also loved the “scrappy” build. Guy is an engineering genius, the wings he made for scrappy are a work of art!

Let’s get back to work.
