IIRC there are some 75% scale flying replica “spitfires” that fly from Enstone so sadly could be one of them.

RIP to the pilot.

Looks to be the case. Still sad though.

Seems it may not be an actual Spitfire- but upsetting all the same

Having seen a picture of the crash scene, it's definitely a "Mk26" 3/4 scale replica rather than a genuine Spitfire.

That's awful. I've visited Enstone and seen the MK26 Spitfires there a few times and the people involved in the flying club seem to be real enthusiasts and very welcoming. Its one of the places I'll stop for coffee and cake if I'm in the area. The Spitfire simulator they have is good as well.
I've seen one fly at one of the events at Cotswold airport as well.

Independent stating it is a replica.

This has just brought back to mind the memory of a close work colleague who crashed and died when displaying his replica, a P-51 Mustang I think, at Barton airfield back in the eighties. He was a carrying out a barrel roll and it went vertically into the ground. The crash was actually shown in its entirety on the 6 o'clock news.

It was very shocking and upsetting at the time. I think the inquiry concluded that it was pilot error.

This is indeed sad news.
What sort of engines are these scale replicas running.
Old school air cooled Lycomings & Continentals are low revving & general very solid but I’d need convincing that the Rotax units are as reliable - but if the failure statistics show that they are, then I can’t argue.

It's curious that showing footage where anyone dies is now taboo and deleted. But TV programmes about RTA victims in hospital are absolutely fine.
