Looks like a North American T-6 to me (also known as the AT-6 Texan, SNJ or Harvard - depending on who was operating it).

Given the amount of oil splatters and mud on the aeroplane, the photographer is going to be stumping up for cleaning the lady's dress.

My dad did part of his RAF flying training on SNJs at Pensacola courtesy of the USN in 1941.

Poor bugger then had to fly a Catalina out over Greenland and onto the Clyde non stop...
