An engine swallows an unidentified metallic object at 27,000 feet over the sea. Bits of a balloon? Drone? If it was a piece of the aircraft that had fallen off presumably it would have been obvious on landing. This all happened before Elon's unscheduled disassembly last week.

That link didn't work for me, however this one describes the incident.There are plenty of videos online of private individuals sending up cameras and other paraphenalia on meteorological balloons to get pictures and data from high altitudes. Here's one launching a model glider from 89000ft
